Five Common Necktie Prints That Tickle Your Fancy
Contrary to a cliche, some good things do last. Classic ties and contemporary ties share at least one thing in common: their prints. Check out the most popular ones in this list and find out which one tickles your fancy.
• DOTTED. Yes, you're looking at Polka dots on these ties. For Asians, the meaning associated with dots is significant in that the dots represent money and wealth. If you share their beliefs, do sport a dotted necktie on New Year. Doing so is a symbolic way of ushering in prosperity for your business and relationships the whole year round. Dotted prints make great camouflages and cover-ups against splatters and beverage spills. These prints are perfect for you if you're the happy-go-lucky type.
• FLORAL. Floral prints not only include flowers, but also leaves, sunshine and even some fruits. They sport vibrant flashes of color that are reminiscent of the tropics and of fun-filled summers: orange, yellow, bright green and sky blue. Few men opt for floral prints and if you're one of these men, you'll agree that you usually wear floral-printed ties on beach parties and other occasions with Hawaiian themes. These prints are also great if you want to profess your being in touch with your feminine side.
• PLAID. Think of Scotland when you hear the term. Plaid prints generally look like checkers which may be lined diagonally, vertically or horizontally. At least three to four colors are used in plaid ties, allowing you greater flexibility on your mixing and matching options. Although classic plaids are woolen, the contemporary ties are made of various materials that simply bear the plaid print. When you feel like putting on some festive cheer for the holidays, wear a plaid tie that sports red, green, white and black. The overall effect is impressive.
• PRINTLESS/ SOLID. Printless ties are otherwise known as solid ties. They are better known for their color than for their lack of print or design. Solid ties are a practical choice if you have a printed collared shirt but no knack for arty mix and matching. In fact, the matching you'll be doing is that between your tie color and your shoe or sock color. Neutral colors such as black or grey remain the favorite of most men. If you love the classics, get yourself a solid tie.
• STRIPED. Stripes are an all-around favorite. Depending on the angle the stripes are arranged on the tie, you can assume different looks that not only complement your overall attire but also play up or play down your chest. For a more expansive-looking chest, choose horizontal stripes. For a leaner look, choose vertical stripes. For a teasing invitation to have onlookers check out your sizzling throat down to the irresistible contours of your chest, choose diagonal stripes. Diagonal stripes also somewhat make your chest size appear bigger, but not that dramatically as done so by horizontal stripes.
Dots, florals, plaids, stripes, solids … which one is your favorite?
